VIKTOR & ROLF SPRING SUMMER 2021 EXEMPLIFIES THIS COVID PANDEMIC! MANY OUTFITS RESEMBLE PATCHWORK COUNTRY/KAMPONG FROCKS STICTHED TOGETHER USING STRIPS OF LEFTOVER FABRICS, UNWANTED LACES, EXTRA TEXTILES REJECTED BY GRANNY OR DRESSES CHARITIES REFUSED TO ACCEPT. I KNOW TIMES ARE BAD AND GETTING WORSE BUT TO PAY THOUSANDS OF RINNGIT TO LOOK LIKE A MILLION DOLLRAS IS ONE THING BUT IN VIKTOR & ROLF'S CASE, TO PAY THOUSANDS TO LOOK SAD AND IMPOVERISHED IS ANOTHER THING. WORSE, FOLKS WILL ASSUME YOUR COUTURE CLOTHES ARE MADE OF QUILTED BLANKETS OR BY YOUR 10 YEAR OLD NEPHEW TRYING HIS HANDS AT HANDIWORK. OR YOU SEWN THE BAJU YOURSELF WHILE WATCHING ASTRO UNDER M.C.O

DATOKEEHUACHEE@GMAIL.COM OH, THERE ARE 1 RUFFLE TOO MANY THOUGH I HOPE I AM NOT RUFFLING THEIR FEATHERS AS VILTOR & ROLF ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE DUTCH DESIGNERS! I am very avant-garde but I cannot think of any of my rich tai-tai friends willing and able to our themselves into most, if not all, of these garments. Mind you, a gown costs a staggering RM 250,000 easily and you would never believe but check online!

OK SO YOU ARE NOT A MULTI MILLIONAIRE BUT STILL WANT A NICE, VERY DE NICE, WATCH THAT MIGHTGB GO UP IN VALUE? WHAT ARE THEY? ONE IS PATEK PHILIPPE NAUTILUS 5711 WHICH IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BUY AND THE OTHER 2 ARE OMEGA SPEEDMASTER 42MM MOON PHASE AND THE THIRD IS GRAND SEIKO GMT!

DATOKEEHUACHEE@GMAIL.COM Which luxury watch would be a good investment and will go up in price? Let Franz Rivoira give you three examples, not all in the luxury segment though! Let’s start with the most expensive one, the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711, but not the blue dial, instead with the white dial! Some people called it the “garage door” for obvious reasons of the colour choice, but I believe it’s one of the more versatile Nautilus’ out there, as the white goes with more setups, than their traditional blue variant. Just imagine wearing a black suit and wearing a blue dial watch, it wouldn’t fit! But that wouldn’t be the main reason why I’d pick this one. The main reason is rather because they stopped the production of this one, so it will only go up in value in my opinion. The traditional 5711 is still being produced and can be (albeit with a long wait list) be bought at your favourite AD: Also I do think the blue is so common nowadays in the luxury watch segment, the white dial v

WATCH EXPERT FRANZ RIVOIRA SAYS THERE ARE 2 WATCHES SIMILAR IN STYLE AND APPEARANCE TO ROLEX EXPLORER BUT AT A FRACTION OF ROLEX'S COST --- SEIKO AND STEINHART WHICH I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF!

DATOKEEHUACHEE@GMAIL.COM Is there a good quality automatic watch similar in design and style to the Rolex Explorer but without the price tag? Franz Rivoira ,  Expert in luxury and design watches and products says,  "Rolex seems to attract a lot of attention from its lovers and its haters. And one of the most iconic models of Rolex - which has been largely copied - err, lots of companies have been inspired by it - is the Explorer Apart from the blatant copies and imitations - which flood the market - there are other companies which manufacture some nice Explorer-alikes which are appreciated by the very picky bunch of watch enthusiasts. I will cite two of the most famous. The first is  Seiko . This is a Seiko SARB033. It is a beautiful watch, made with top-notch materials, perfectly engineered with Japan quality of assembly, and has some really cool features, between which a 100 mt water resistance, 50 hour power reserve, an exhibition back which shows the movement, a sturdy, respec

MOST WATCHES ARE ROUND OR AT LEAST CIRCULAR OR APPEAR TO BE SO. BUT ARE RECTANGULAR WATCHES MAKING A COMEBCK?

Image
DATOKEEHUACHEE@GMAIL.COM Founder at  WatchNewsletter.com Are rectangular watches making a comeback? I’d say they never left! This is the Cartier Tank Solo. Looking at the dial you’d think it’s from the 50s or 60s, looking at the material and the strap you recognize quickly though that this is a newer watch. Cartier is THE watch that comes to mind when you think about rectangular watches. You don’t see it as often, as it’s purely a dress watch and can be hidden in plain sight. But if you look at actors and other famous people they wear them all the time: Sometimes vintage, sometimes new! With jewels or without! A timeless design! This last picture was taken at the Golden Globe Awards 2020, so I don’t think they ever went out of style! The beauty of it is its timeless design, which was designed by Louis Cartier in remembrance of the Renault Tanks during the First World War. So while it seems very elegant and stylish, it remembers war and tough times. Another brand which does the rectang

WHEN YOU BUY A ROLEX OR A PATEK PHILIPPE, WOULD OR SHOULD YOU ADD ON DIAMONDS ON YOUR OWN?

DATOKEEHUACHEE@GMAIL.COM Why does putting diamonds on a Rolex cause it to lose value? Unless the diamonds are inserted in Rolex factory and are original to the watch and not inserted later by your local jeweller!  Never put diamonds later on your own accord because you never touch an icon. BY FRANZ RIVOIRA  I do not want to sound offensive, but when you are working on a masterpiece you need to be at least, masterful enough to keep its qualities intact. I can tell you a story which comes from the tales of modern horology. The most coveted watch of the world is the  Patek Philippe Nautilus . It is this bad boy here. The Nautilus was created in the 1970s by possibly the most talented watch designer of the world. His name was  Gerald Genta . He was a sort of a genius, and created some of the most iconic watches of his time. This guy, here. The Nautilus grew to become a big success. So big that the company, seeing its sales, in 1997 (that is, 25 years after its launch) decided to make it a

IS ROLEX KING OF ALL WATCHES? I THINK SO...

DATOKEEHUACHEE@GMAIL.COM How come everybody like Rolex watches if they are so boring and there are so many? Boring. For some, Levi’s 501 jeans is boring, for others it would be instant classic. Same with Rolex. Rolex is probably the most copied watch on the planet. Is that a proof of a ‘boring’ or a proof of ‘classic’?  I’d say it’s a matter of taste. If you get a Rolex and give it a chance, you will start noticing small details, how they all work together and I’m 99% sure it won’t be boring to you in a week.  Also, watch out for smart watches. In some years ahead these will be boring and Rolex will be far from boring;) Many. There are how many billions of people on the planet? And how many watches Rolex produces yearly? Mind you, these numbers are so far apart that it is fair to say: Rolex are a few, it just happened so that in your circle/surroundings it has presence. But definitely to say  Rolex makes high quality watches. That is a given. But they are not the best, but people thin
