When i was a child I wondered why we were put here on earth.
Then someone said we were put here by God or Buddha, Jesus or Siva to look after his other creations---the animals!
Of course back then I was 12 or so and thought this was such a foolish notion and laughed it off.
But now I know this is true. We have done enough to kill so many animals till they are extinct and damaged the natural environment till we ourselves the apex predators are in danger!
Dogs and furry friends are angels sent by God (or whatever name you cal Him) to test us. If you don't wish to rear a pet, it is fine but do help other humans to help animals!
Dato Nancie Foo the celebrated actress and producer said it best when she observed "Dogs are members of your family!" Dato Nancie Foo has always kept dogs throughout her life since childhood and gave me Dedione a poodle puppy which I adored. He died aged 11 and I have another poodle given by Princess Dato Sri Becky Leogardo also named Dedione ho is now nearly 12.
God is watching...

Seremban Dog Shelter named FURRYKIDS SAFEHAVEN to Celebrate Soft Launch of its New Base
Join in its Gala Dinner with a Masquerade Party & Fundraiser
Despite experiencing a challenging year, dog shelter Persatuan Penyelamat Haiwan Terbiar Furrykids Safehaven is capping the year-end with a high by celebrating the soft launch of its new shelter base. In doing so, it is organizing a masquerade-themed gala dinner and party for its followers and supporters this November that aims to showcase the spacious new land where over 2,000 rescued dogs are housed and cared for.
More importantly, this gala dinner also serves as a fundraiser to help with its incessant funding needs to sustain all of the shelter’s operating expenses and the long list of bills that come with saving and caring for more than 2,000 dogs. The dinner is also the first sit-down event proper held for the first time in three years since the Covid-19 pandemic had stalled gatherings and caused subsequent lockdowns.
Furrykids Safehaven President Kiran Bhatt said they are excited to officially introduce and launch the new shelter to the public, which had been built from scratch.
“This location was born out of desperation in which we had to urgently relocate all of our dogs to higher and safer grounds following the flash floods that badly hit and affected our old shelter in Mambau, on November 4, 2020.
“It was a heart-breaking and devastating incident where over 50 of our dogs perished in the fast-flowing waters. That incident struck us so hard and deep that we will never forget the dogs we lost. Despite crushed spirits, we knew immediately that we had to lift ourselves up by sourcing a new land that is not only higher and more secure but also bigger in space for all of over 2,000 dogs to run and roam within,” said Kiran.
She added that a lot of hard work, sweat, blood, and tears had gone down into ensuring the shelter is well-planned, safe, and functional for the dogs. By Jan 1, 2021, they had managed to successfully transfer 400 dogs to this space, though she recalls that they were still far from completing the shelter’s construction.
“Owing to financial limitations, we had no choice but to complete the construction in phases back then. We were thankful though to have our shelter’s founders Ms Liza Sharif, Madam Sathia, and Madam Chin with us every step of the way.
“Now, we are proud to announce that we have finally completed the construction in full, with our administrative office and dogs’ treatment room being the last ones. Spread over a comfortable 6.6 acres across different platform levels, we vowed to ensure the safety of our dogs so that they will never be trapped by raging floods and be at risk again.”
The gala dinner with be held on November 5, 2022, which also marks an exact 2-year anniversary since the fateful flood incident in the wee hours of the morning.

The dinner is an 8-course Chinese menu with halal and vegetarian options available upon request.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by a line-up of performers and entertainers. Additionally, there will also be auction sessions of some amazing pieces and collectibles, as well as a Raffles Lucky Draw.
This fundraiser is aimed to raise about RM200k to help FurryKids Safehaven stay afloat as well as to furnish its treatment room with adequate equipment, which is estimated to reach the cost of RM60k.
The shelter is finding it impossible to sustain at its current rate. It is sinking with debts owed to food suppliers and vets. The monthly operational cost alone is about RM90k and it receives no government subsidy until today. The expenses of dog food (kibbles) surpass over RM50k per month with at least 12,000kg of kibbles required to feed all of its dogs every month.
“This is equivalent to about 3,000 kg of kibbles that we use each week, amounting to RM14,250 per week. This is why we’d like to plead and call upon the public to support us with tickets and your presence at this gala dinner,” said Kiran, adding that one of its future plans include establishing its own e-commerce store where the public can order various items online for purchase to also help its monthly sustenance.

About Furrykids Safehaven:
Furrykids Safehaven is a non-profit organization dog shelter which houses about 2,000 dogs ranging from puppies to adults and to handicapped dogs. Furrykids Safehaven is also working with the local council to humanely manage the stray population in the community with its Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage (TNRM) programme.
On 1st January 2021, it relocated the shelter to higher grounds after experiencing the loss of over 50 dogs during the 2020 flash floods. It had to rebuild the shelter from scratch and aims to be an example to all both locally and internationally in handling the stray population humanely while providing a truly safe haven to the voiceless.
