3RD APRIL 2021 FACE OF MALAYSIA & FACE OF ASIA JUNIOR 2021 GRAND FINALS 

The Face of Malaysia (FOM) and Face of Asia Junior (FOAJ) modelling competitions - annual searches organised by Amber Chia Academy - finally concluded their 2020/2021 editions at a joint grand finals held at the prestigious Manhattan Ballroom of the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, in Kuala Lumpur. 

Originally scheduled for 14th March 2020, after which it was postponed to 5th December 2020, it has been inevitably delayed multiple times for over a year due to various restrictions as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. 

This year’s dinner event, which was emceed by Dennis Yin, saw eight (8) champions named from their respective fields. FOM (17-29 years old eligibility) splits its winners between female and male; while FOAJ’s winners are broken down into one (1) grand winner overall plus five (5) from the categories of Little Star (4-6 years old eligibility), Rising Star (7-8 years old eligibility), Shining Star (9-12 years old eligibility), as well as Teen Star (13-16 years old eligibility / female and male), respectively. 

During the grand finals, this year’s finalists were judged live onstage, in front of a 350-strong audience of invited guests abiding by strict government SOPs, by an esteemed panel of professional judges consisting of Desmond Yoi (Makeup Guru of Amber Chia Academy), Joseph Chow (Malaysia’s 1st Top Male Supermodel), Chan Lee Xuan (Face of Asia Pacific 2019), Leaf Yeap (Face of Malaysia 2019), Calvin Leo (Founder of Asia Instafluencer Marketing), Jessie Leong (Photographer of 8Lab Studio), and Yeoh Eng Seng (Editor-in-Chief of Sisters magazine). 

“After more than 10 years of organising model competitions, I have to say that this one is the most challenging one because of the Covid-19 delays and restrictions, but I am so touched to everyone for not giving up on me and my team - our wonderful sponsors and business partners, as well as our incredible contestants and their supportive family members,” shared organiser Amber Chia. 

The top model and principal of Amber Chia Academy also added that “it really has been a very long journey for our finalists and they have really shown us what great winners they are tonight, and I’m so proud of them.” 

By the end of the exciting and long awaited evening; which was also graced by the likes of special guests such Francisca Luhong James (Miss Universe Malaysia 2020), Ashraf Dasley (Face of Malaysia 2020), Hor Zhe Fei (Little Mister Celebrity Malaysia 2020), Shirlyn Sarina Hendry (Miss Petite Universe International Malaysia 2020), Ilyn Loh (Miss Elegance of Little Miss Malaysia 2017), Elyn Loh (Mini Miss United World 2019), Amanda Tan (Miss Petite Universe International Malaysia 2020 Runner Up), and Kathy Tan (Asian Kid Model Icon 2020 Award winner); a handful of subsidiary awards and consolation prizes were also given out for outstanding performances by finalists throughout the competition. 

All winners and award recipients walked away with trophies, along with various prizes and products from sponsors. For FOM, the male and the top two (2) female winners also received the honour of representing Malaysia in the upcoming international leg of the Face of Asia 2021 competition, which is slated to take place later this year in November in Seoul, South Korea; whereas for FOAJ, the grand champion will be invited to receive an award at the Asia Model Festival.
