In support of a good cause, Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur teams up with renowned Malaysian fashion designer Khoon Hooi to bring the city yet another exciting afternoon tea experience aptly named Khoon Hooi’s Dondang Sayang Afternoon Tea from 5 October to 3 December 2020 at Lounge on the Park.
His designs today are worn by many affluent female personalities donning rich colours and textures complemented with cleverly curated patterns and embellishments.
Khoon Hooi’s gowns were also seen in numerous red-carpet premieres this year that includes the notable Golden Globes Awards. Taking inspiration from Khoon Hooi’s passion for the Straits Chinese culture, Pastry Chef Suzana Anuar and team plays with creativity and skills to translate the intricate details of the signature Peranakan designs into dainty edibles.
Khoon Hooi’s Dondang Sayang Afternoon Tea encompasses vibrant flavour of local ingredients and recipes. The menu is paired with Khoon Hooi’s favourite teas – Lemon & Ginger; and Puerh Mandarin.
Other tea options are available. “There is just so much room for great partnerships with Mandarin Oriental, especially now that our label has become more experiential – our newly launched capsule focusing on personal space is an example of this. I look forward to the afternoon tea that pays homage to the Peranakan culture, these are simply perfect for afternoon “sembang” sessions,” said Lee Khoon Hooi, Creative Director at Khoon Hooi.
Commenting on the collaboration, Christian Tavelli, General Manager of the hotel said “We are delighted to be working with Khoon Hooi in bringing a new afternoon tea experience to the city.
"Supporting homegrown brands have always been one of the pillars of the hotel especially more so during these difficult times of COVID-19 where most businesses are affected. We hope that people would join us in supporting more local brands.”
Priced at RM 158 per person, with free flow of hot beverages up to two hours, 10% of the proceeds will be channelled to the Malaysian Institute of Arts.
